Spring is upon us here in Rock Creek Hills. This is a perfect time to read your new Rock Creek Hills Citizens’ Association Community Directory. This should help you in getting to know your new neighbors! We sincerely thank the many volunteers who distributed the directories to your door. If you have not received one, please call Shannon Hamm. Special thanks go to Sam Hoxie for her diligence in putting together another great directory. Both Ryan Hamm and Drew McDermott were a great help in getting directories to the volunteers and distributing quite a few. The greatest tribute on distribution goes to Mike Baker for delivering 110 directories!
Tom Sisti has taken the initiative to work with the Association to improve the traffic triangles in the neighborhood. We have purchased trees for planting and will then follow up with landscaping. We are in the process of prioritizing the triangles for landscaping. We still need volunteers to help landscape. Call Tom Sisti at 301-942-4376 to offer your help.
The Board has been busy reviewing plans for home improvements. Remember, before you start any exterior project submit your plans to John Mangan, Covenant Chair, or Shannon Hamm. The Board is committed to enforcing our covenants and wants to encourage that you talk with your neighbors prior to submitting your plans to the Board. A new home will be built at 3612 Saul Road. The existing home will be demolished and Chevy Chase Custom Builders will be constructing an all brick two-story colonial home in the same location. We know that this will cause some inconvenience to neighbors and traffic along Saul Road. We have made it clear to the builder that consideration of our residents is a top priority.
The following projects have been submitted for Covenant Approval:
1. 9645 East Bexhill – side portico and door added to currently approved addition –APPROVED.
2. 3405 Wake Drive – rear addition – APPROVED
3. 9812 Old Spring – rear/side deck – APPROVAL PENDING CLARIFICATIONS
4. 3208 Wake Drive – front garage extension/rear two-story addition – APPROVED
5. 3612 Saul Road – tear down existing structure/new two-story house – APPROVAL PENDING CLARIFICATIONS
Come to the May 9 meeting to learn the latest information. Here is what was sent out on our rchcanet@yahoogroups.com. This is the email address for our Association’s email group. If you want to join, see the information noted elsewhere in this newsletter.
The three break-ins occurred on Tuesday, March 6 between 8 and 5 p.m.
This was when no one was home. Though three homes were hit (Barroll Lane,
Littledale Rd, and West Bexhill Drive), only one was robbed.
No one from the neighborhood called police to provide any leads.
Thus, the police have no suspects.
When our neighborhood suffered aggressive car assaults three Friday
evenings ago, there were three neighbors who at 2:00am called the police with
clear clues. As a result, the car
was pulled over leaving our neighborhood, and the officer had enough information
to arrest the suspects. Now as an association we are trying to work with the
State's Attorney General’s office to encourage full enforcement of the laws
and financial responsibility be placed on the arrested juveniles.
Bottom line: Call the police to repot any suspicious activity.
The Rock Creek Hills Citizens’ Association e-mail network, rchcanet, is for families of Rock Creek Hills. Founded in March 2000, rchcanet has about 35 members. We urge everyone with email access to sign up for this, as it will allow information about the neighborhood, planned events, etc. to be easily disseminated to everyone in a timely manner. This communication forum is not intended to replace any existing communications – newsletters will continue to be sent and meetings will continue to be held.
The list is not moderated, that is no one reviews messages before they are posted. When individuals apply to join rchcanet (become members), we check to make sure they are families residing in Rock Creek Hills. Only members can post messages, receive messages, or review messages on the Yahoo Groups web site at http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/rchcanet. Usually list members receive each e-mail message as it is sent. If you would prefer, you can receive a single daily message or opt to view the email messages on the Yahoo Groups web site.
To join rchcanet or to ask a question about it, contact Sam Hoxie via email at samhoxie@comcast.net. Be sure to include your name and address if you would like to join so that we may verify your connection to the neighborhood. You may also find information about this email group on the Rock Creek Hills web site at www.rchca.org. Thanks!
Some residents along Stoneybrook and Hillridge were sent a letter from Maddox Incorporated. The letter is a "Notice of Application / Adjacent and Confronting Property Owners / Application to be Considered by the Montgomery County Planning Board / Waiver of Subdivision Review & Record Plat." Basically the attached Subdivision Record Plat shows three lots.
Lot 1 is roughly from Stoneybrook Drive on the east to Rock Creek Hills on the west and from Kent Street on the north to an existing storm drain easement on the south. Given the location, it is assumed that the existing storm drain easement is where the culvert exists between the stake and the Temple. Lot 1 is 23.1837 acres. Lot 2 is from lot 1 on the north to Rock Creek Park on the south, with the exception of 3.8265 acres (lot 3). Lot 2 is 27.9775 acres. Lot 2 includes the Washington Mormon Temple. Lot 3 is surrounded by lot 2 on the north, south and west. The east side of lot 3 is Stoneybrook Drive. Lot 3 includes the visitors’ center.
A letter from Maddox
Incorporated to the Montgomery County Planning Board states, “The proposed
subdivision contemplates no new development and is intended solely to
accommodate the division of legal ownership of the Church’s holdings.”
Copies of the letter from Maddox Incorporated to the Montgomery County Planning Board will be available at the May 9 meeting.
On March 26, 2001 the bridge over CSX railroad on Stoneybrook closed. The county anticipates a 10-month closure. Cherry Hill Construction was awarded the contract and has passed out a letter to some residents. They set up a field office in trailers along Kent Street. Please feel free to drop by with any comments or concerns.
With the exception of one utility line, all of the utility lines crossing the bridge have been relocated. The remaining utility line is currently supported on the north end of the bridge by two by fours. A PEPCO official stated that the remaining line was not a PEPCO line and would probably be relocated when utility poles along Stoneybrook Drive are replaced. The utility poles are being replaced to accommodate additional utility wires for Starpower.
RCHCA wrote the Mayor of Kensington requesting that during the bridge closure, the No Left Turn during rush hour be lifted. However at the Town’s meeting in March, they declined our request. They feel the assigned detours are adequate.
